Microporous Paints

What are microporous paints?

Microporous paints use a resin system, which results in a flexible, durable and breathable finish. The flexible finish allows the timber on your sash windows to move naturally whilst minimising the cracking and peeling associated with usual coatings. Furthermore, these coatings provide a bacterial, mould, and UV resistant finish to ensure a healthy lifespan and long-lasting finish. These breathable paints are also water-based, which means that it’s actually quicker to paint with – keeping quality high and costs low.

Who manufactures our microporous paint?

We buy all our microporous paint from Teknos of Finland. Teknos is one of the largest family-owned companies in Finland, with operations in more than 20 countries in Europe, Asia and the USA. They are one of the leading European providers of water-based timber coatings, which is why we use Teknos microporous paints as standard for all of our services.

Painting during manufacture

All of our new joinery receives two spray-finished undercoats of primer to enhance adhesion for subsequent coats, and two spray-finished topcoats to provide a strong, yet flexible, microporous surface which is crucial to the longevity of your windows and doors. As an added bonus, Teknos microporous paints are available in over 200 RAL colours, so you’ll be spoilt for choice!

Painting during installation

A window with just spray paint can sometimes look a bit dull, and even plastic. That’s why when we’re installing your windows, we like to finish everything off by hand, with brushes. This gives your windows a final protective coat and makes them look much more traditional and authentic. Neat brushstrokes running across the timber really add something to the window, and it’s a service that not many other companies will provide as standard.

What kind of options are available?

We use RAL 9016 as standard, but if you’re interested in getting a different colour for your windows, either two-tone (a  different colour on the inside than on the outside) or single tone, just ask our surveyor to show you his colour booklet. It’s the best way to get a good handle on how the colour will look, as minor differences in monitor displays can occasionally make  online colour charts look slightly different.

If you’d like a totally different brand of paint, that’s fine too. Please be aware that all our pricing is based on water-based paint, so if the paint you like takes longer to work with then we may need to raise our price slightly to account for that extra work.
