Going Green with Timber Windows

We at Core Sash Windows understand that it is important to make environmentally friendly choices when it comes to your home, and we are dedicated to using the most sustainable and energy efficient materials and products possible to help you make your windows green! Sustainable windows are a great start to a sustainable home.

There is a common misconception that using timber and felling trees has a negative environmental impact, however younger trees are more efficient at absorbing CO² and producing O². Therefore, the constant harvesting and replanting of trees is more beneficial in reducing carbon dioxide and increasing the supply of oxygen than simply leaving mature trees standing. Official UN/ECE statistics show that European stocks of unharvested trees are growing at a rate of 252 million cubic metres a year. That would be enough to build 21 million homes!

Going Green with Timber Windows

Wood is a naturally renewable, bio-degradable material and uses far less energy in processing and manufacture than alternatives such as PVC, meaning it is significantly the most sustainable option you can choose for your home.

We use Engineered European Redwood for our window frames which are highly durable and produce only 5% waste, compared to the 30% that standard, untreated timber produces. Our products will not twist, will not rot and require very little maintenance, meaning you don’t have to sacrifice beauty for sustainability.
