Restoration

If your property still has its original Sash windows but they are in a state of disrepair, you may want to consider restoration as an alternative option to replacement.

This type of work is very delicate and involves the removal of the rotted section (often found at the bottom of the sash or ‘bottom rail’). To achieve this, we must firstly remove and safely store the original glass. Next, a machine cut piece of wood which will match the style and design of the removed section will be made and then spliced in place*. Once all carpentry work is completed, we carefully re-install the original glass.

[*For this process we use close-grained Douglas fir from FSC approved sources].

Finally the sash will be sanded and filled, ensuring the smooth joining of new and old timber, and the sash will be primed, undercoated and painted. If your sills are rotten we can remove them and replace them with machine cut Iroko sills. Iroko is an extremely durable hardwood which is commonly used in boat building.
